PORTAGE, Ind. — A bank robbery suspect wanted for the robbery of the First Source Bank located on Franklin Street in Michigan City Tuesday afternoon is now in custody after being arrested by Portage Police officers shortly after the robbery in Michigan City.

Officers with the Portage Police Department were dispatched to the Chase Bank located at 3275 Willowcreek Road in reference to a robbery in progress.

Callers reported the suspect fled the scene in a black Nissan.

While en route to the scene, Portage Police Officers Matt Johnson located a vehicle matching the description and initiated a traffic stop.

The three occupants of the vehicle gave conflicting stories to officers which lead detectives to detain them at the Portage Police Department for further questioning.

While being questioned, detectives from the Michigan City Police Department met with Portage Police detectives and confirmed that the suspect they had in custody matched the description of the suspect involved in the robbery at First Source Bank in Michigan City earlier that day.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified is currently being held in the Porter County jail.

More information on both incidents will be available as soon as it is released.
