Michigan City man identified as suspect arrested for bank robberies in Michigan City and Portage.

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. —  A Michigan City man was identified as the suspect arrested in connection with the robbery of the First Source Bank in Michigan City and Chase Bank in Portage on Tuesday afternoon according to police.

41-year-old Jason Cheek was arrested after Portage Police Officers took him into custody for questioning following the robbery of the Chase Bank in Portage.

While in custody, Michigan City Police detectives, Portage Police detectives, and agents with the FBI questioned Cheek as well as a second 17-year-old suspect.

Information gathered during the questioning led to the arrest of both suspects.

Cheek was additional charged with the robbery of the Chase Bank in Michigan City on June 5th.

Agents with the FBI Merrillville office took charge of the robbery investigations are are continuing to work with local law enforcement agencies.

“Chief Mark Swistek would like to personally thank the FBI, all officers and detectives involved
especially Detective Corporal Tim Baker and the quick actions of the officers and detectives
from Portage Police, bringing this multijurisdictional spree to a safe and successful
conclusion,” Sgt. Chris Yagleski stated in a press release issued by the Michigan City Police Department.
