Over 2,500 NIPSCO Customers Without Power in Michigan City

2,509 NIPSCO customers lose power during severe thunderstorm Tuesday night.

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — Over 2,500 NIPSCO customers are without power after a severe thunderstorm rolled through Michigan City Tuesday night.

According to the power company’s outage center, Tuesday night’s storms affected more than 15,000 customers throughout northwest Indiana, 2,509 of those customers being residents of Michigan City.

Among the other cities affected, Valparaiso, Portage, and Merrillville also have a large number of outages.

NIPSCO reports that over 5,000 customers in Valparaiso, 2,200 customers in Merrillville, and over 3,900 customers in Portage are also without power as a result of the storm.

Crews have already been dispatched to assess damages caused by the storm and to restore power to the affected homes.

At the time of this story, there was no estimated time of restoration.
