Detectives have located a student believed to be responsible for posting several threatening messages on social media alluding to a school shooting at Michigan City High School.
After posting several threatening messages on social media, a Michigan City High School student has been taken into custody and is being interviewed.
The student posted messages on Snapchat and Facebook Monday night alluding to a school shooting the next day.
After receiving numerous calls from concerned parents, detectives from the department investigated the allegations and were able to locate the student.
According to Chief Mark Swistek, the student is being questioned about the incident and is being detained at the Michigan City Police Department with his father present.
The 16-year-old student was arrested and charged with level six intimidation, a felony according to Indiana Criminal Law.
Parents worried about sending their students to school on Tuesday can be assured that the matter is under control and there is no more need to worry.
Shortly after taking the suspect into custody, Michigan City Police officials posted a message on their Facebook page that read: “The Michigan City High School student who made several alarming posts on Facebook has been located and is currently speaking with detectives at the Michigan City Police Department. Thank you to everyone who alerted the police of this major concern to public safety.”
