MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — A woman was pronounced dead Tuesday morning after reportedly being struck by a semi-truck that failed to stop.

According to a press release by the Michigan City Police, officers responded to the King’s Inn on Kieffer Road at approximately 9:49 a.m. after receiving calls about what appeared to be a deceased woman in the parking lot.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman laying on the gravel portion of the parking lot, across from the hotel’s main office.

Witnesses told officers the woman was struck by what seemed to be a red tanker style semi-truck and believed the driver of the truck was a white female.

Surveillance footage and witness statements show that the truck was traveling eastbound through the hotel’s parking lot toward Kieffer Road when it struck the woman.

According to responders from the LaPorte County EMS team, the woman died upon impact.

The driver of the truck did not stop to help render aid and continued driving south toward Interstate 94.

Officials are not releasing the identity of the deceased woman until next of kin can be notified.

Michigan City Police are asking anyone who may have information as to the identity or whereabouts of the person driving the truck to contact the department at (219) 874-3221.
